Having nearly separated after Jamie (Helen Hunt) and Paul (Paul Reiser) each admit to a close call with infidelity, the Buchmans start their fifth year of marriage with the news that they’re going to have a baby. But it won’t be easy, as Paul is unemployed after losing his job at the Explorer Channel and Jamie continues working at her new PR firm. And while Jamie’s sister walks away from her wealthy fiancé, Fran continues her renewed relationship with ex-husband Mark. Despite their best efforts to keep the pregnancy a secret, once word gets out Jamie’s parents become more involved in their lives than ever. From finding a new doctor for Jamie and seeing a therapist about their marriage to childbirth classes and Paul’s new film, the Buchmans approach parenthood one day at a time right up until their daughter is born.
